Women & Bicycles
Wait a moment while I put on my fire suit. Okay, here goes. Too many women are still letting their husband’s make their bike buying decisions. There I said it, let the flames begin. While I’m at it I might as well get over another. Way too many of their husbands never grew up.
You’ve already heard how I feel about bikes that are supposedly, “Cool, Tough or Hot.” I knew a guy in high school that had the coolest boat, motorcycle AND car (no kidding…a ski boat!). It didn’t change the fact that he was just shy of taking his mom to prom. Let me reiterate, everything that makes your e-bike less like the traditional bike you would choose for the same ride, makes your e-bike less efficient, quick, comfortable and easy to handle.
I get it. “Joe” misses pretending. His bike has to look like a motorcycle. Ladies, you don’t have to do the same. Before I get a lot of complaints about ‘wonderful husband’s just trying to do something nice,’ usually hers is cheaper than his and he hates that she can’t keep up. So, she ends up with something heavy and hard to handle. Mostly, it sits (sets?) in the garage.
The bike above makes a lot more sense. It will out run a fit racer on any ride over a few miles. It isn’t fast enough for, “Joe.” It is light and easy to maneuver even for the tiniest person, but isn’t “cool” enough for “Joe.” Want to get some real exercise? I have never ridden an e-bike with less resistance when the motor is turned off…none, ever. “Joe” wants to know where to find the throttle. What’s more, it has a torque sensing mid-drive that will tackle any hill seated!
Actually, it might be the ideal “Joe” bike. He can get it for his wife. She can handle it and it’s only $1095! When “Joe” ‘s not around she can put on some real miles and get some real exercise. Gaurenteed, it is so upright that it is the most comfortable e-bike you’ll ever ride.
Now, just to be clear, this is probably the bike most folks should ride. That is, if they want a truly good e-bike without spending an arm and a leg. “Joe” might not like having to wait three years for the warrenty to run out. He won’t be able to modify it, but you’ll know he isn’t screwing it up either! If you aren’t “Joe”, stop on down and take a test ride.
