We Have Dutch Bikes!
In the world of practical or commuter cycling The Netherlands is seen as sort of a Mecca. They have more bikes than people as well as more folks bicycle commuting every day than anywhere else in the world (per capita). Small wonder; their infrastructure supports it.
As The Quad Cities evolves we will want more Dutch style bikes for practical cycling. They just make sense. Right now, you can reach almost 100% of our most popular destinations within two blocks of a paved and segregated Multi-Use Path. This is the direction communities all over The U.S. are heading. Why not get a bike designed for it? Why not frpm a country that already specializes in it?
With all that in mind, we first added cargo bikes you have seen. We’ve also reached out to Dutch mfg’s Delta and Tenways so we can offer actual Dutch bikes.
The Delta is the most affordable hillclimbing, torque sensing Mid-drive anywhere. I have never ridden a more comfortable upright bike. No one touches their Dutch Promovec mid-drive for pedaling over their 16mph limit or with the motor turned off.
Tenways, out of of Amsterdam, offers two single speed belt drives. These are great if you stay on or near our MUPs. They make great commuters as nothing is lower maintenance, more quiet or lighter. Their 600 is about 35#’s! It makes me want to get out of the saddle and attack hills. It is very quick handling for those who like to toss their bike around. Their 800 is more upright, has a suspension fork and could use a suspension seatpost ($100). Both have gravel ready tires and should be ideal for rail trails (they aren’t real hilly). Range, even with relatively small batteries, is quite remarkable simply because they are so light and designed to be pedaled.
Now, I get it that some of you want bikes that might not be so practical. That’s why we still offer conversions and other models. Still, if you want reliable daily transport .and a traditional bike feel, these may be the ideal for you.
