Ruby’s DIY E-Bike Kits
For nearly four years now we have been pushing the advantages of converting the bike you love over factory e-bikes. Your bike is just plain better quality. It handles better, is more comfortable and efficient. The motors themselves have been around longer. There are many more of them and are produced by the world’s largest e-bike component mfg’s. The fact that conversions cost less is only an added bonus.
We are pleased to announce that, going forward, we will be offering e-bike kits for those who wish to build their own or need to save a little more.
BUT FIRST
Complete builds, including a torque sensing mid-drive, with a 20ah battery, have been selling for $1195. Now, the installed basic system we recommend will be $1095 (see photo above).. Add $200 for boosted low end performance, most immediate response, color display and heavy-duty main gear (ideal for recumbents, daily commuters with deraileurs and beginning cyclists).
You can also get a cooling modification for an additional $100. This is ideal for cargo bikes, if you intend long hours of climbing, or regular rides of 30+ miles under high boost. Some just want a little extra protection (Mark believes this is overkill for almost everyone).
Still, you might just want or need to Do It Yourself! The recommended kit you see above, with a 20ah battery (style of your choice) is only $795* (add options as listed in the previous paragraph).
We can offer legal Bafang kits, that aren’t as responsive, or light, but are more powerful, and quiet, for $995* All e-bikes climb hills well. Mid-drives do it at speed. Bafang without losing speed.
Yes, these are available from various foreign suppliers for less. You could.buy direct from my suppliers! The advantage of getting your kit from Ruby’s is that you get local support, installation advice and warrenty service.
So, you may wonder, why do we recommend The TSDZ2 over the venerable Bafang? The TSDZ2 is nearly 30% lighter for better handling. It has a secondary, more secure, mount and most importantly, instantaneous response. This is in accelerating, braking, shifting or coasting (no over run). All this means best range, safety and daily performance (commuters take note).
If we perform your conversion, you may still plan on one week turnaround. Kits for DIY may take as long as two weeks (currently under one). Both require half down before ordering.
*deduct $300 if you source your own 48 volt 20ah, 20amp+ battery (we use 30 amp continuous draw batteries). We will even help you comfirm your battery is correct for your application. Note: Many have no need for a large battery (7-10ah is plenty).
