Your Own Custom Built E-bike!
I often talk about the best e-bike as being the one converted from the bike you already love. You aren’t going to find a factory bike as comfy, efficient or reliable, but what if you don’t have a bike and you don’t want to break the bank?
How would your ideal e-bike look? How about a butted and hydroformed aluminum frame (I prefer butted steel, but then I like hand filed lugs too)? Let’s add popular cushy tires, but that are actually safe. Maybe your choice of disk brakes, handle bar style, saddle, 60, 80, 100+ mile range with a front and rear suspension. We can do it, keep it light and actually cost less than comparable factory bikes!
For example, the bike pictured above is a very popular step through design. It is not easy to mount a traditional diamond frame bike loaded from a beer run on the back. Let me tell you, as my knees and hips continue to fail, swinging my leg over a top tube becomes less and less appealing. These ride just a tad better as well. All that is just me. You may want the extra efficiency and quick handling of a diamond or mixte frame. Not a problem.
That frame or a comparable diamond, is butted and hydroformed. The resulting bike being quite light yet under $600. A suspension stem, actually designed for comfort, is a hundred dollars as is a quality suspension seat post. Top of the line, full coverage fenders are just $100 more. My mid-drives, with 80nm’s of torque and come with a rear rack as well as a 20ah battery ($1195).
Those comfy 2.5″ file tread tires grip on pavement, hard pack, pea gravel and stone. They can be run at a wide range of inflation as well. Definitely not a mtb, but we don’t offer e-bikes for mtb’ing.
The bike shown comes with excellent, mechanically actuated disk brakes. It could be upgraded at any time to mechanical/hydraulic for $100. Add another $200 for full hydraulic. I think you would be wasting your money.
If you got every option available, your custom bike, built and fitted specifically to you, would run $2395! Now, odds are you aren’t going to want all those options. Set-up as most prefer, it is about $1700 (add $600 for the most powerful legal conversion motor).
Stop in. Let’s go over your specific needs. We’ll first find the ideal bike for you. We may even send you to another shop that has your perfect bike. Then we’ll start working on building it just as you like. Don’t pay more for less. Test ride some options from our rental fleet, then let’s talk.
