There Is A Change In The Wind
It has been a long time.coming. Only a few years ago even I was arguing against e-bikes on MUP’s. Not only did I not understand their proper operation, but I could see no way to determine what would be allowed. Persons much smarter than I worked it out and now we need to be moving along. Enforcement is coming and our rightful place, on legal pedelecs, should be secure.
Not only were more e-bikes sold last year than traditional bikes, but in many places they out sold automobiles! Now issues of quality are finally being addressed. More and more are learning that you can’t just slap any old parts on some hunk of metal and call it good because it has a motor.
Traditional cyclists are feeling left out. This is fueling the change to lighter, quicker, more responsive and long range e-bikes. I mentioned a few weeks back that even Eunorau (famous for illegally powered monster bikes) is now offering a true lightweight.
I am actively pursuing a line of bikes with high torque, torque sensing mid-drives from the world’s largest e-bike motor mfg. Their frames are butted and have more forgiving and lively round tubes. With belt drives and a wide range of internal gearing, as well as classic styling, they are still coming in at under 50#’s.
Now, this still won’t compare with converting the bike you already love. There are always going to be special applications and custom builds that require converting a higher end traditional bike for best range and handling. You should stop by some time. Grab a brat and a beer. Let’s discuss your ideal e-bike!
