E-bikes & Service Rad, Blix, Ecotrik, Lectric, Buzz, Himiway, Sol, Aventon, HeybikeAriel, Espin…Rev, ,
It happened again today. Someone in an online forum was actually bragging about the fact that they don’t service any e-bikes they don’t sell, ‘Especially those sold direct to The Consumer.’ The guy can’t even provide warrenty service on the brands he does sell! Why would anyone buy a bike from someone that can’t service it?
At Ruby’s, we are happy to do work on anything! I am not concerned. I know we have bikes that will compete in every segment of the market. Perhaps you’ll get your next bike from me. If not, I will still earn your service and service is more profitable than sales anyway.
We don’t worry about servicing another brand of traditional bike. Why should we worry about e-bikes? Can you imagine the expense if only Ford dealers could work on your Ford car or truck? There has never been an e-bike as complicated as a single speed coaster brake hub. Don’t let these blow-hards intimidate you. If they can’t work on your e-bike, they shouldn’t be working on anyone else’s.
There are only a few mfg’s of e-bike motors. It is not unusual to see the same motor on a $900 bike as on a $15,000 bike (yes, there are folks selling those). Few build their own frames. Among these are almost all major brand names. No one makes their components in-house and no one makes their own batteries. It is not like there is someone out there machining motor covers just for Rad or Trek or whoever.
E-bikes are simple and reliable. You will never even hear of a burned out motor that hasn’t been heavily and illegally modified. Yes, some bikes have proprietary control electronics. Even those are of off the shelf Chinese boards. What can’t be replaced at the component level can be ordered. If you don’t want to wait, don’t buy expensive bikes with proprietary systems! Better still, rent a bike to get you by until yours is ready. Ruby’s even rents to folks having work done elsewhere.
